Another Classic Hard Rock Guitar Riff

Let me show you another classic hard rock guitar riff of mine. The most I like in this riff is that it has attribution to classic rock, funk and blues. I like riffs which can be used in different musical styles – just depends on how you will play it, the type of the distortion you will use and how much gain it will have. From my point of view the best choice is not to be so concrete and play it a little bit funky, with a blues sound and hard rock energy. At least that’s the way I thought that it would be nice for this riff to be played.

And now I’d like to point you an interesting detail, in this riff we use the E major and E minor scales simultaneously. It can be proved if we will analyze the notes 1) 5th string / 4th fret – belongs to the E major scale 2) 6th string / 3rd fret – belongs to the E minor scale. This combination of two notes from two different scales gives this riff the possibility to sound with great energy but in a bluesy way at the same time. That is one of the reasons why this riff sounds like you can use it in different styles. And in general, if you will be able to understand the musical theory of every riff and solo you play – believe me that you will become a much better musician, because it’s very important to feel and understand what you are playing – it’s one of the secrets towards musical success! Good luck!
