Working as a guitar teacher for over 6 years I’ve seen more than one hundred guitar newbies. The most interesting fact is that 80% of them when coming to my lessons for the first time could play at least some easy guitar riffs using the perfect 5th interval. At the same time after some questions of mine, it was clear that they didn’t know anything about musical intervals and some of them even didn’t know at least the string notes. I just want to say that the perfect 5th interval is a quite known one and used even by people who have nothing with music and especially guitar! They just learn easy riffs from YouTube or other websites and play them without thinking about what they are doing. Yes, it’s ok when you turn off your mind and play it with your soul, but at the same time there is a great difference when you know music, you are a musician or you are just playing without knowing the musical basis and grammar.
So, if you are serious about your guitar playing then you must understand that you have to learn the musical grammar including the intervals, this will improve your musical knowing, then your musical experience and then your guitar playing. Watch the video and see what riffs it’s possible to make only with the use of a single interval and just think about the power of a real musician who knows the musical grammar from A to Z. Your potential will grow when you will begin to use all that knowing in your own music in a variety of ways and believe me, this will help you to make your music sound more professional and you to feel more confident.
